Honors Chemistry II
Journal Article Reports
You will write a review of one article from
a science journal. It must be from a science journal, such as Discover, Science
News, Scientific American, Popular Science, and Popular Mechanics. On-line science articles are NOT
acceptable. There is a large supply of
science journals in my classroom that you may take home and turn them in with
your report.
Three reviews per six weeks are to be done.
Each will be due every other Friday. No late work will be accepted.
The article must be about a science topic,
i.e. biology, earth science, chemistry physics, engineering, computer
technology.
The Review must be typed and be at least
one full page long.
The review should include information about
the topic:
what is new in the field that caused the
article to be written,
who did the research for the article and what
are
their
conclusions,
may (should) include quotes from the article,
especially
for
sentences that you don’t have the
expertise
to paraphrase.
The journal article must be a full-page
article, not a two or three paragraph news item.
Turn in the article with your review.
Format:
Title of Article
Author(s)
Source (magazine name) date, issue, and
page number.
Write a two – three paragraph synopsis of
the article.
Grading: Each report is worth up to 33
points.
A poorly reviewed report will receive a check
minus and be worth 28 points.
An average review will receive a check and
be worth 30 points.
An excellent review that includes all the
information will receive a check plus and be worth 33 points.
If all three articles receive a check plus
you will get a 100 for all three reports.
The
average of all three reports will count as one quiz grade for the 6 weeks.
